Battle Tower
Ever since its introduction in Pokémon Crystal, the Battle Tower has been a prominent place to visit. Diamond and Pearl brings some mild changes to the Battle Tower with Wi-Fi and Double Battles now incorporated.
The Battle is located north of the Fight Area. If you haven't beaten the Elite Four, you'll have no idea where this place is. You may have noticed the fairly small area far northeast on the Sinnoh map? Well, the Fight Area is there along with the Battle Tower. You must first beat the Elite Four, and then take the ferry in Snowpoint city to get there. Once you're there, head past the huge building to the Battle Tower. What's that large building you wonder? Well, that's where you can cash in your battle points (BP) for rewards. But, we'll get into that shortly.
Once in the main lobby, you'll notice receptionists in front of you. The woman on the left is your guide to the Multi Battle Rooms. The woman on the middle is your guide to the Single and Double Battle Rooms, and the woman on the right is your guide to the Wi-Fi Battle Rooms. There are some rules to the Battle Tower for all three types of battles:
Rules and Guidelines
- The Battle Tower has a level 50 limit. Your Pokémon will automatically be reduced to this level upon competing. Pokémon under level 50 will not be raised up to that level.
- No Legendary Pokémon (Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys (all forms), Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin & Arceus). These are all banned from competing (Sharpe 2007).
- You must win 7 battles in a row to advance.
- Battle Points are awarded upon winning seven battles.
- You cannot reset your game or turn off your game (before given the option to do so). If you do, your progress will be void, and you'll have to start your battle tower challenge all over.
The goal is to win a 100 concecutive battles without losing; a hard task. You can rest and break inbetween battles, but you must deafeat seven trainers in a row before you can do anything else outside the Battle Tower. If you lose a battle, you'll be taken to the lobby, and you'll have to start all over.
Single and Double Battle Rooms
The only difference between these styles of battling in the Battle Tower (apart from battling with one or two Pokémon at a time) is the number of Pokémon you can choose. For a single battle you are allowed three Pokémon, while four are allowed for double batting. The choice is yours. Either way, upon beating seven trainers, battle points are awarded.
Multi Battle Rooms
Multi Battle rooms can get pretty interesting because you have the option of teaming with someone via Wi-Fi to pair with their team to face the AI. Alternatively, you can just pair with an AI partner as well. You earn battle points after you defeat all seven pairs of trainers.
Wi-Fi Battle Rooms
This is probably the toughest of the three to compete in. Here, you are facing other player's Pokémon teams being controlled by the AI. It's operated by a ranking system. "If you continue to win your battles, you will go up a rank. You can also lose a rank if you consistently lose" (Sharpe 2007). Upon beating seven trainers, battle points are awarded.

As you acumulate enough BP (Battle Points) you can spend them to get various items. When you're ready, check out that large building in front of the Battle Tower to exchange for the following items:1
