Gold Silver and Crystal
Not too long after Red, Blue, and Yellow came Gold, Silver, and Crystal marking the second generation of Pokémon games. Gold and Silver were released in the US on October 11, 2000 for the Gameboy Color. Crystal came out a year later.
The storyline was expanded quite a bit with the Johto region along with the addition of 101 new Pokémon. Your goal again is to start out as a boy (or girl in Crystal version) from Newbark town to become a Pokémon Master. Once players had collected all the gym badges from the Johto region and defeated the Elite Four, players could then travel back to Kanto three years later from the time of Red, Blue, and Yellow. There, players could battle the Kanto gym leaders, and battle against Red on Mt. Silver.

Crystal Version
Pokémon Crystal bought some minor changes to the GS lineup. Players could now choose whether they wanted to play as a boy or a girl trainer. Pokémon sprites were now animated, and moved at the beginning of a battle. The Battle Tower was also first introduced at this time where players could get a tough battle challenge from the AI.
