Poffins
As you may recall from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, the food used to raise your Pokémon's conditions of Cool, Cute, Smart, Tough, and Beauty were called Pokéblocks. With Diamond and Pearl, "Poffins" (which look likes loafs of bread) are now used to improve your Pokémon's condition. The Poffin House in Hearthome City is where you can create Poffins using berries.
In order to create Poffins, you need a Poffin Case, and berries for the task. You get a Poffin Case right at the Poffin House. The case itself can store up to 100 Poffins.
The smoothness of the poffin determines how much the Pokémon's sheen meter is affected; represented by stars (see under the Pokémon's summary). The lower the smoothness of the Poffin, the slower the Pokémon fills up on them. In order to maximize the amount of Poffins your Pokémon can eat, try and make the smoothest Poffins possible. You can increase your chance of this by:
- Keeping a steady pace with the stylus
- Anticipating spin direction changes
- Mixing with other players
Bear in mind, once your Pokémon's sheen meter is maxed out (All the stars are flashing in its summary screen) you can feed it no more Poffins to improve its condition.
Types of Poffins1
As I'm sure you’re trying to improve your Pokémon’s condition for the contests, here's a brief list of the types of Poffins that can improve certain conditions. Bear in mind, your Pokémon's nature has a lot to do with how much its condition improves depending on which type of Poffins it's fed:
| Poffin Flavor | Condition Raised | Berries Suggested |
| Bitter | Smart | Rawst, Aguav, Lum, Nanab |
| Spicy | Cool | Cheri, Figy, Leppa |
| Sweet | Cute | Pecha, Mago, Persim, Bluk |
| Dry | Beauty | Chesto, Wiki, Oran, Pamtre, Charti |
| Sour | Tough | Aspear, Iapapa, Sitrus |
| Mild | Multiple | Other |
