The Safari Zone

The Safari Zone is a great place to capture uncommon and rare Pokémon in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. It is located just west of Lilycove City on Route 121. The rules for The Safari Zone are generally the same as they have been in the past:

  • Cannot use your own Pokémon to battle
  • Costs 500 Poké to enter
  • You have 500 Steps before your time is up
  • You can retire at any time from the menu
  • You can throw a Pokéblock (Causes Pokémon to stay), or "go near" (Makes Pokémon easier to catch, but may run away)

Pokéblock Feeders

This is a new addition to The Safari Zone. You'll often see silver feeding boxes around patches of grass. These are called Pokéblock feeders where you can place a Pokéblock inside to increase to attraction of wild Pokémon it. Useful, considering you're trying to take the least amount of steps possible finding Pokémon.

Navigating around The Safari Zone

The Safari Zone is divided into four major sections. In order to explore all the areas, you'll need to have the Acro and Mach bikes. You'll need to use the Mach Bike for getting up some steep inclines for certain areas of the Safari Zone. And you'll need the Acro bike to jump over to certain areas as well. Obviously you can't have both bikes at once, so you'll need to make numerous trips to explore everything The Safari Zone has to offer.

In addition, you'll need a Pokémon that knows Surf and Rock Smash to find Pokémon in the water and under rocks.

You can also find the following items in The Safari Zone:

  • Calcium
  • Max Revive
  • TM 22 (Solarbeam)
