Shiny Pokémon
The concept of shiny Pokémon was first introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver. Every once and a while, you may come across a Pokémon that's a slightly different color than it normally is! *gasp* Your chances of running into a shiny Pokémon is roughly 1/8192 however (Howell 2008). Those odds aren't great... What's more is that the only difference between regular and shiny Pokémon is the color; nothing more. Some people will say a shiny Pokémon stats are "better" than a normal colored Pokémon Really, it's just for bragging rights; they are not anymore powerful than their normal counter parts. Here's an example below of a normal and a shiny Pikachu:
Normal Pikachu:

Shiny Pikachu:

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, finding shiny Pokémon can be considered a little "easier" once you've obtained the Poké Rader key item. If you notice a patch of grass that sparkles when using the radar, then you'll know you've found a shiny Pokémon in that spot.
